BCH Accreditation Courses have now resumed and the first such courses for 2026 were held on Wed 17 June and Thurs 6 August 2026 @

1900 hrs. Both very well attended.

BCH Accreditation Courses; normally held at 1900 hrs - Rifle Club Building - Micket Creek Shooting Complex at the NW end (#240) of Brandt Road. (First club on immediate left after entry to the Complex) These last around one hour, followed by a short test. In order to assist in meeting Firearms Council costs we have had to increase course fees to $70 plus $7 GST. This is a one-off exercise and accreditation does not expire as long as membership of an approved hunting organisation and firearms licencing remain current. There is no charge for juniors. Please bring along copy of your current Firearms Licence and current membership verification (card / receipt) of an approved hunting organisation (SSAA, ADA or F&G) and ask Alan (Exec Officer NTFC) that these be scanned on the night to save time later.

NEW PERMIT ARRANGEMENTS;

UNDER NEW ARRANGEMENTS ONLY A SINGLE PERMIT IS ISSUED ANNUALLY TO THE NTFC AND INDIVIDUAL HUNTER APPLICATIONS ARE DESCRIBED AS BEING FROM HUNTING NOMINEES (OR RE CAMPING NOMINEES, JUNIOR NOMINEES ETC. ). WHILE THE NTFC ISSUES A STAMPED PAGE 3 OF THE DEED POLL ON APPROVAL OF THE APPLICATION, NO SEPARATE "PERMIT" AS SUCH ISSUES. IF HUNTERS HAVE NO JUNIOR OR CAMPING NOMINEES, ONLY PAGES 1-3 OF THE PROFORMA NEED TO BE RETURNED TO THE NTFC AS THE APPLICATION.

MOSQUITO SPRAYING BY HELICOPTER

CLOSURE ADVICE

REQUEST FROM HEALTH DEPT 22 OCT 2025

We will be conducting helicopter mosquito surveys and control operations in response to high tides. We will be working in the range area:

- Friday 7 ^th November 2025: From 10:00- To 16:00

- Saturday 8 ^th November 2025: From -8:00 To 16:00

- Wednesday 12 ^th November 2025: From -8:00 To 16:00

We request that during these times:

-SSAA rifle range be closed for centre fire rifles,

-Darwin Pistol Club Mover and Silhouette ranges be closed for centre fire pistols

-Darwin Rifle Club range be closed excepting prone or supported shooting styles without potential to exceed the classification template.

Keep Watch for Fires

IF YOU ARE IN THE HUNT AREAS KEEP CONSTANT WATCH FOR FIRES AS THEY CAN BE FROM NUMEROUS, SOMETIMES UNPLANNED & UNEXPECTED CAUSES.

AT THE CAMPSITE DON'T PARK IN THE MIDDLE OF A SPEAR GRASS CLUMP !!!

Still may be some unburnt country. Northern block hunters will have to keep an eye out for smoke until the area around the campsite is burnt. - long unburnt grass goes right up to the campsite area.

Similarly with hunters at the Central Campsite, the long unburnt grass comes right up to the track that goes round it.

All other campsites have been cleared, and there are relatively safe areas to park and leave the vehicles.

When leaving vehicles on Stapleton track to go for a hunt - hunters will need to find a burnt area or a safe place to leave vehicles until the block is burnt out.

COMPLIMENTS COMMUNITY BENEFIT FUND

NORTHERN TERRITORY GOVERNMENT

The original Foundation Stone for the Micket Creek Shooting Complex was surrounded by a wooden wicker work structure which did not fare well during wild fire events.

Through a successful Minor Grant Application to the Community Benefit Fund (topped up by NTG gaming machine revenue) the NT Firearms Council received a (minor) grant to enhance the appearance of this entry feature. Council commissioned a five panel structure of 1200x600x3mm mild steel panels with its own logo laser cut into the steel as a centre piece and two club logos similarly laser cut on either side representing each of the 4 MCC shooting clubs. This steel will remain unpainted and will develop a rust patina. The area will be kept weed free with herbicide treatment.

ATV FOR FIREARMS COUNCIL WEED CONTROL

The NT Firearms Council has acquired a new ATV thanks to a grant via the Community Benefit Fund.

The vehicle’s 300 litre tank (& associated diesel pump unit) was immediately filled with water on its receipt to be available as a fire fighting unit during a period of long grass and fire threat. It has since been frequently used by Council and club officials to access otherwise difficult to reach areas of the complex for track & weed inspection purposes. It has undertaken weed spraying duties for the DRC and the SSAA clubs during working bees and is presently on loan to the NT F&G club for similar purposes on their areas.

The vehicle has performed well and up to expectations in all respects. Starting & operating is relatively simple through its automatic transmission and it is not intended to be a race car. Use is limited to date to areas within the Complex as it is not road registerable. We expect also to use it for weed management in the Litchfield National Park Back Country Hunting areas and we have finally been advised our new trailer is ready for collection & registering so that the unit may be road transported. The Fire authorities, Parks & Wildlife and The Gamba Army are all aware of this acquisition and have all commended Council on its initiative. Resolving & modifying a shipping container for its secure storage has been a moving feast with prevarications by suppliers as to availability, various pricing & supply date estimates and generally loose undertakings. We are currently looking at alternative arrangements but will consult CBF prior to any new resolution.

NTFC has since taken delivery of (and registered) a 4 wheel trailer, purchased via Community Benefit Fund NTG grant, on which the ATV may be transported to areas of interest for weed management purposes; such as our BCH Hunting Areas in Litchfield National park, Harrison Dam, etc.
